A Brief History
The Western Namoi Veterinary Services has been providing veterinary care in the Narrabri and Wee Waa area for over 40 years!
The Wee Waa Clinic was first opened in 1976 by Martyn Powell, on the current site in Warrior Street. An increasing demand for veterinarians in the area prompted the hire of Michael Read in 1991 after many years as a one-man practice. Michael had been working for some time in a sheep consultancy practice in Western Australia.
In October 1994, WNVS expanded into Narrabri, with the opening of the clinic in Francis Street. Also at this time, Michael Read became a part-owner of the business.
Since then, the Western Namoi Veterinary Services has steadily grown. The number of staff has increased, and there have been a number of clinic upgrades – including new radiology equipment, an extension providing a new cage room and treatment area, and new anaesthetic monitoring equipment.
Martyn Powell retired in 2013, after about 40 years in practice, making Michael Read the sole owner of the practice.
